From the Grandmaster regarding Grand Priory Crosses

To our noble Grand Priors,

My lovely wife recently told me about a wealthy South Korean Christian businessman who wanted to display his faith in Christ and his belief in the power of salvation through hard work. In the Korean markets work porters who carry goods from one stall to another in wooden hand carts. The businessman found several very old and worn-out wooden carts and he bought three of them. He took the carts to his workshop, took them apart and turned the worn and ancient wood into crosses which he put on public display in Seoul, South Korea for all to see and understand the toil and sacrifices that our Lord, himself a humble carpenter, made for humankind.

I began to think of how we could display our faith in Jesus Christ through crosses and icons that are unique to each of our more than forty Grand Priories. The Grand Priory of the United States has purchased the Castle Christian Church and Museum in the state of Connecticut, for our Order. I ask each Grand Prior to find an appropriate cross or icon from their Grand Priory to display in the church and museum. The crosses and icons do not have to be large, but they should be a unique symbol of their Grand Priory, and they should be accompanied by a short (no more than one page) story of their significance to Christianity, to the Order, and to their Grand Priory. The Grand Prior of the United States has assured me that he will display the collection of crosses and icons and the written descriptions of their significance in the Church and Museum for all visitors to see. This will be a physical manifestation of our unity as a Christian Order.

Before the end of 2021, please select a cross or icon that is particularly unique to your Grand Priory and send it with a short, written description of its significance to: H.E. Grand Prior Timothy Bryant Jones.

Ma charmante épouse m’a récemment parlé d’un riche homme d’affaires chrétien sud-coréen qui voulait montrer sa foi en Christ et sa croyance en la puissance du salut par un travail acharné. Sur les marchés coréens travaillent des porteurs qui transportent des marchandises d’un étal à un autre dans des charrettes à bras en bois. L’homme d’affaires a trouvé plusieurs charrettes en bois très anciennes et usées et il en a acheté trois. Il a emmené les chariots dans son atelier, les a démontés et a transformé le bois usé et ancien en croix qu’il a exposées au public à Séoul, en Corée du Sud, pour que tous voient et comprennent le labeur et les sacrifices que notre Seigneur, lui-même un humble charpentier, fait pour l’humanité.

J’ai commencé à penser à la façon dont nous pourrions afficher notre foi en Jésus-Christ à travers des croix et des icônes qui sont uniques à chacun de nos plus de quarante Grands Prieurés. Le Grand Prieuré des États-Unis a acheté le Castle Christian Church and Museum dans l’État du Connecticut, pour notre Ordre. Je demande à chaque Grand Prieur de trouver une croix ou une icône appropriée de son Grand Prieuré à exposer dans l’église et le musée. Les croix et les icônes n’ont pas besoin d’être grandes, mais elles doivent être un symbole unique de leur Grand Prieuré, et elles doivent être accompagnées d’une courte histoire (pas plus d’une page) de leur signification pour le christianisme, pour l’Ordre, et à leur Grand Prieuré. A nuestros nobles Grandes Priores,

Mi encantadora esposa me habló recientemente de un rico hombre de negocios cristiano surcoreano que quería mostrar su fe en Cristo y su fe en el poder de la salvación a través del trabajo arduo. En los mercados coreanos trabajan porteadores que transportan mercancías de un puesto a otro en carros de mano de madera. El empresario encontró varios carros de madera muy viejos y gastados y compró tres de ellos. Llevó los carros a su taller, los desarmó y convirtió la madera gastada y antigua en cruces que puso en exhibición pública en Seúl, Corea del Sur, para que todos vieran y entendieran el trabajo y los sacrificios que nuestro Señor, él mismo un humilde carpintero, hecho para la humanidad.

Empecé a pensar en cómo podríamos mostrar nuestra fe en Jesucristo a través de cruces e íconos que son exclusivos de cada uno de nuestros más de cuarenta Grandes Prioratos. El Gran Priorato de los Estados Unidos ha comprado la Iglesia y Museo Castle Christian en el estado de Connecticut, para nuestra Orden. Le pido a cada Gran Prior que encuentre una cruz o icono apropiado de su Gran Priorato para exhibir en la iglesia y el museo. Las cruces y los íconos no tienen que ser grandes, pero deben ser un símbolo único de su Gran Priorato, y deben ir acompañados de una breve historia (no más de una página) de su importancia para el cristianismo, la Orden y a su Gran Priorato.
